Here in our house we have healthy relationship and respect with/for the Voodoo Loa of the Dead - Baron Samedi and Maman Brigit. They have done right by us, and we try to do right by them. Read more about what happens when we forget our obligations, and how the lenormand helped us see the light.
Fast forward a couple weeks.... I'm recovering from surgery and had a drs appointment over 100 miles away (ah, how wonderful it is to live in rural NM) and it seemed like a good day. We get most of the way home, and as we turn onto our street suddenly the car begins to lose power and the check engine light starts flashing. Oh sh*t, I know how bad this is. Immediately I am overrun with visions of my car becoming a lawn ornament. We limp it into the driveway and my husband asks if I have checked the oil recently. Yeah..sure...oil.... I knew it had been checked recently so I was confidant that wasn't it. Regardless, hubby pops the hood and pulls the dipstick out. Uh, oh it's pretty low. So he goes to look for oil. Then it gets more fun.... The dipstick breaks off in the car, the oil he pours in promptly goes on the ground... I'm in tears at this point. So I go inside to fire up the computer to start seeing what we can do. I made the mistake of opening up my email and look at that, more bad news. Orders cancelled, product discontinued, clients backing out... really? Ever get that feeling like there is just a dark cloud right over you? That's how I was feeling. We sat at the kitchen table wondering how we were ever going to be able to handle this bad luck... and then I got a feeling maybe it was more then that. So I pulled out my Lenormand deck and spread 4 cards across the kitchen table. Yep, now I wanna just smack myself. It's right there in black and white (ok, so really it's in color, but you know what I mean!) First pair is CLOVER and MICE - already I can see where this is going. Clovers are about luck and fortune. And see these rotten little mice raiding the pantry - guess what they are doing? STEALING! Yep, my luck is going down the drain. So now I look to the other two cards. I already have a sinking felling (no pun intended). The ANCHOR and the DOG... The dog stands for loyalty and the people who help you, the anchor is about stability. Hmm, stability tied to the people who help me... Starting to put it all together now. We failed to follow through on our promise to them, they helped us, and we left them out in the cold. So our luck and fortune was disappearing. We sat down and ordered cigars, took the other car to buy a bottle of rum and sent a message to the person we had been talking to about chickens. Now, back to the potential lawn ornament. We start it up and the check engine light goes off. We decide to risk driving it the mile or so to our mechanic and have him look at it. Get it there and by some miracle we have not borked the engine. Simple $6 spark plug and a little tightening here and there and we are good to go again! WHAT???? Unbelievable. I get home, and get email notifications that the cancelled order people have re-ordered, this time larger orders. Clients reach out and say "yeah, we decided that we DID want your help". The person we were going to get chickens from GIVES US free chickens.... Lesson learned - ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU SAY, CAUSE STUFF CAN GO SIDEWAYS IN A HEARTBEAT.

Thanks Lynn - sometimes I worry about how people will take the voodoo aspect of my belief system (even though they correspond pretty well with the Catholic saints) but this was one of the clearest and best examples I had of what the cards can do!
