Earlier this month my 5 year old daughter shocked me by asking if she could have her own deck of tarot cards. We already sit and talk about the meanings of different cards, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. She also is very adept at caring for our altars, and clearly has a love for the path we follow in this house. So I set about looking for a deck that might be child friendly - and I found Happy Tarot! Learning the tarot isn't just about memorizing a bunch of keywords and then winging it. It involves your personal feelings and interpretations of a card as well. I'm sure everyone out there can relate - you find a deck online that you are drawn to, that you MUST have. You order, wait patiently (ok maybe not too patient) stalk the mail man on delivery day and then you open the package and instantly deflate. Check out my response to the Gothic Tarot by Joseph Vargo.

Why would anyone want to get out of their tarot comfort zone? If you are in your comfort zone, you are likely to be stable and confident and therefore able to do solid and dependable readings. Rituals and regular processes help ground readers and prepare the mind to begin the important work of interpreting the cards. We spend so much time finding our groove and learning to recognize and recreate our comfort zone; why would we want to step out of it?

It's been a while since I allowed myself a new deck - I mean, heck, I've been selling off or trading nearly every deck that I owned except for a few special decks. This past week I traded with a fellow tarot reader for a couple of decks that I never would have considered on my own, but that I felt pretty drawn to. This morning the new is abuzz with the fact that Paul Haigh, one of Australia's worst serial killers, has asked to have a deck of tarot cards as he sits and serves six life sentences. It has raised some questions about if death row inmates (and those serving life sentences) should be allowed access to pagan tools. I weigh in on the controversy.

I'll be the first to admit that the lenormand system can seem really daunting at first - it is so totally different then tarot. With only 36 cards you would think it would be a cake walk, right?  Sometimes I think that if you are a tarot reader transitioning into lenormand that it is a little harder then the other way around.
